This procedure will cause the user (Client) to create a TCP/IP Network environment on a computer running Microsoft Windows that will facilitate TCP/IP connectivity with the local SNOS packet node computer (Server) across the Ethernet (Local Area Network) interfaces of both computers. Completion of this procedure will allow the SYSOP the ability to manage the node computer remotely, via telnet or a web browser, and accommodate the use of e-mail client software on a computer running Microsoft Windows or similar operating system when connected to the packet node.
See the procedure titled "Setup Procedure for Email and Newsgroup Accounts" in order to create email and newsgroup client accounts in Microsoft's Outlook Express email client or to use as a reference when using similiar email client software.
The time required to set-up and successfully test the TCP/IP Network configuration should take less than five minutes.
The following instructions are somewhat generalized due to the variations in the various releases of MS Windows. It is expected that the user is fairly comfortable in their navigating around in the Windows operating system.
IP address assignments used for example reference in the instructions below are: Client computer, 44.116.9.98; SNOS computer / gateway, 44.116.9.97; Neighboring radio linked SNOS node computer, 44.116.9.65.
